The 18th Annual Cin City 7’s rugby tournament was held on July 29th at Brimelow Fields in Cincinnati, Ohio. The tournament was hosted by the Cincinnati Rugby Football Club (CRFC Wolfhounds) and was part of the Midwest Rugby Union 7s series. The tournament featured some of the best rugby teams from across the Midwest region.
The women’s championship match was played between the Chicago Lions and the Chicago North Shore, while the men’s championship match was played between the Chicago Lions and the Saint Louis Bombers. Both matches were highly competitive and showcased some of the best rugby talent in the region.
The tournament was a great success, with teams from all over the Midwest competing for the championship title. The teams played with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship, making it a memorable event for everyone involved.
The Cincinnati Rugby Football Club did an excellent job of organizing the event and ensuring that everything ran smoothly. The club has a long history of promoting rugby in the Cincinnati area and is committed to growing the sport in the region.
In addition to hosting tournaments like Cin City 7’s, the Cincinnati Rugby Football Club also offers a variety of other programs and events throughout the year. These include clinics, multiple adult rugby teams, and social events for members.
If you missed any of the matches or want to relive some of the action, be sure to check out the Cincinnati Rugby Football Club’s YouTube channel. They have videos of most matches played on the A Pitch at Brimelow Fields available for viewing.
From the CRFC Wolfhounds Chairman, Dan O’Sullivan:
“I wanted to thank everyone that came out [Saturday]. Wasn’t the result we wanted or expected but we had a wonderful summer playing high level 7’s.
I wanted to say thank you to Al [Lucas] for putting on a wonderful 7’s tournament this year. As usual the tournament went smooth. The fields looked great (thank you Al and Brody [Critzer]). The food and beverages were flowing.
I want to thank everyone that helped for the tournament from set up, to running the tournament, and clean up. This was a total team effort from the club. We had the fields cleaned up in less than 30 minutes and trash was picked up everywhere. The grounds looked better at the end of the day when I left then before we got there.
A HUGE SHOUT OUT to Gemma from the Kelts. She taped all day in the sun and did a great job. Another big shout out to Brody and team for painting the fields and getting them ready again. They deserve the second shout out and more. Robert, Pua their “son” Dakota for cooking and running the stand all day. Everyone above never once complained and only asked how they could help and do more. That made my life a lot easier and allowed me to help around the field doing other things and allow the 7’s players to focus on winning.
Thank you to all the sponsors and Gray Hounds. We are fortunate to have the facilities we have and the support we get from you guys.
I did talk to a lot of Gray Hounds about bringing back some social aspects of the club back. Every Thursday after practice we will have cold beers at the field and we will work on getting food moved in with the drinks eventually. This is an open invite to any and all to join and continue growing as a club. We will be trying to also get club events going again. We did this with the cyclones in the winter we had over 40 people go and it was a huge success.
Lastly 15’s starts August 8th. WE WILL HAVE A SECOND SIDE THIS YEAR. If you know anyone interested in playing please have the come out or reach out to us. […].”
