The second ever MLR draft took place Thursday Aug 19 2021 at 6:30pm EST and was broadcast on FS2 then was switched to The Rugby Network. Hosted by Dan Power and Dani Wexelman hosted this year and 39 player were drafted in total. You can find a list of all the draftees here.
“The future of Major League Rugby took another significant step forward tonight with the addition of 39 very talented young players to our league,” said George Killebrew, Major League Rugby Commissioner.
For those of you who came out to Cin City 7s, you had a chance to see our player from Thomas More University (via Argentina!), Alejandro Torres cut up the field. “Ale” also launched sky-high restart kicks that impressed everyone. But his unflinching defense is what impressed as this kid took down much larger opponents.
Well, his Spring at TMU and Summer with CRFC were impressive enough to get noticed by MLR scouts. He was drafted tonight as #23 overall! Congrats to him!
